The Oculus rift helps the Navy simulate future work spaces. The Office of Naval Research’s Project BlueShark is an effort to create a high-tech, futuristic environment to demonstrate what the Navy’s work spaces might look like. The project allows ship operators a 3-D view of their environments, which is useful for scenarios such as combat, where there would be moving ships, submarines, aircraft’s, torpedoes and depth charge.
This really is something incredible and shows in depth the way that things are going. The Navy is able to experiment with different interfaces that may not be yet be practical to build. The Oculus headset is combined with a touchscreen board that simulates whatever controls the operator is working with.
